WINNERS IN THE STUDENT PEACE WRITING CONTEST

 LAD’S LANGUAGE ARTS FAIR, 2005

Sponsored by Peace Network of the Ozarks

Students in grades 7-8, 9-10, and 11-12 were invited to write, in 500 words or less, about the necessity for choosing the path of peace, inspired by Martin Luther King’s words:  “Wars are poor chisels for carving out peaceful tomorrows.”

Peace Network congratulates the students and their teachers listed below and thanks the judges:   Gary Blackwood, nationally recognized author; Jean Blackwood, Dr. William Kumbier, English professor at MSSU; and Joan Collins.

September Eleventh Families for Peaceful Tomorrows,  is an organization founded by family members of those
killed on September 11th who have united to turn their grief into action for peace. They  have read the students pieces and also will be publishing some of them on their website. They also are committed to helping young
